I was 18.
My parents had just divorced and my mother had left home. My friends had abandoned me and I felt very alone. I was surrounded only by sad and angry people.
I painted it trying a strong feeling of injustice and melancholy. I wanted to create something that symbolized the pain felt by me thinking about the evil in the world. I have not planned anything, I was guided by instinct. I have designed a tangle of metal things, disturbing, using cold colors, unnatural, but that evoke something.
I've designed an invented face inside this tangle. My sister, after a few weeks, noted that it was my face. And I remained really shocked. It was true.
Only after studying surrealism I understood that I was able to bring out something from my unconscious.
Now I don't know what my painting symbolizes. Maybe only a psychologist can discover its meaning.
I think it is like a dream: it has a manifest content and a latent. The manifest content is the image itself, the latent content is the hidden meaning that a person can discover only with psychoanalysis.
